When engineering a pressure washer, you want to make sure that the end product does what it’s intended to do: thoroughly clean surfaces. While the power output of your pump motor is a major factor, the pressure washer nozzle you select will ultimately determine the impact force when sprayed on a surface.
Calculating the cleaning impact of your pressure washer nozzle involves a simple formula. You’ll just need to know your spray nozzle number and either the PSI or GPM of your pump.
Watch this quick whiteboard video with a step-by-step explanation of how to determine the cleaning force of your high pressure pump sprayer — along with the output in ounces — based on the pressure washer nozzle you use.
As you can see, you don’t need to be a math whiz to calculate the cleaning impact of a nozzle. The nozzle may only be a small component of your high pressure pump, but it can have a major impact on how well it cleans a surface. It’s the quality and consistent power output of the pump you use, however, that will ultimately determine how effective your pressure washer cleaning solution is over time.
As mentioned, you’ll need to know your GPM or PSI to calculate the output. If you’re not exactly sure what you need for your industry or application, get recommendations in our helpful Guide to Proper GPM and PSI below, and speak with one of our pump experts to narrow it down even further.
